Alice's Thumbprint Cookie
Serve with a sweetly flavored tea that will appeal to children, such as raspberry, apple, or cinnamon-spice.
March Hare's Hammy Sandwich
- sliced ham, cut into cubes (about 1½ cups)
- ¼ cup finely chopped celery
- ¼ cup finely chopped sweet red pepper
- 2-3 tablespoons finely chopped onion
- 1 tsp mild curry powder

- mayonnaise
- mustard
- 8 slices of white bread, crusts trimmed off, buttered on one side
|
Mix first five ingredients together. Add mayonnaise to moisten and mustard to taste. Spread filling on 4 slices of bread, top with remaining 4 slices, and cut into triangles.

Dormouse's Dillied Egg
- 6 hard boiled eggs, cut in half and yolks removed
- 2 tablespoons minced dill pickles
- 2 tablespoons minced onion
- 2 teaspoons fresh dill, minced, or 1 tsp dried

- mayonnaise
- mustard
- paprika
- parsley

Mash egg yolks and mix with pickle, onion, and dill. Add mayonnaise to moisten and mustard to taste. Pile mixture into egg halves. Sprinkle with paprika and garnish with parsley.

Alice's Thumbprint Cookie
- 1 cup shortening
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 cups sifted flour

- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 egg whites, slightly beaten
- 1½ cups finely chooped pecans or walnuts
|
Cream shortening, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla. Sift flour with salt and stir into creamed mixture. Roll into balls. Dip in egg whites. Roll in chopped nuts. Bake at 375° on greased cookie sheet for 4-5 minutes. Remove from oven and thumbprint each cookie (kids love to do this!) Return to oven for 5 minutes. When cool, fill the depression with your child's favorite jelly or jam.
