Chamomile (Matricaria chomamilla) is a sweet-smelling herb that has been used for centuries to heal and soothe, both inside and out. Sipped as a tea (1 teaspoon dried herb to 1 cup boiling water, steeped for 3-4 minutes and sweetened with honey) it has sedative qualities and can settle an upset stomach. Used as a facial steam, it can soothe and refresh tired skin. Place a half-cup of dried flowers in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Drape your head with a towel-tent and sit for ten minutes over the bowl. Other herbs you can add to this reviving facial steam: comfrey, fennel, sage, peppermint.
