Herbs Rise to New Heights
Many herbs thrive in hanging baskets. To create yours, follow these easy tips.
- Line a wire basket with dampened sphagnum moss. In a dry climate, line the sphagnum with plastic (make slits for drainage).
- Plant herbs in the sides of the container, making holes in the moss to accommodate the root-ball. Add the planting mix (soil-less works best) as you plant the sides.
- For a spill-over look, start with large transplants of fast-growing trailing herbs: licorice plant, ivy, dead nettle, periwinkle, mint.
- Include edible flowers in the top of your basket: bright nasturtiums, marigolds, pansies, violets.
