A Royal Lavender Lift

For centuries, lavender was used to sooth those thought to be mad. But Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) must have driven her gardeners crazy by demanding fresh lavender for her aching head, even in the English winter. Now, scientists know that this aromatic herb has chemical properties that calm the nervous system and ease depression. Here's a lavender treat you can make for yourself:

Lavender Body Splash
¼ cup white vinegar
¼ cup fresh or dried lavender flowers
Combine ingredients in a jar. Cap and place in the sun for a week, then strain and dilute with an equal amount of distilled water. On manic, headachy mornings, splash on this uplifting cosmetic vinegar—and be Queen for a day!
