Lavender's Blue, Dilly-Dilly

Lavender has been used in the making of soap since Roman times. In fact, the name of this sweet-smelling herb comes from the Latin word lavere, to wash. Here is an easy recipe for a liquid lavender soap that will bring bathtime delight. Grate a bar of castile soap (about one-half cup) and place in a double boiler with 2 and one-half cups water. When the soap has dissolved, stir in five tablespoons of glycerine, five drops of lavender oil, and a few drops of blue food coloring. Cool and pour into pretty bottles for a lovely Valentine's gift.
