The pasqueflower (Anemone patens) is one of our earliest and prettiest blooming herbs. Its fat buds unfurl into a lovely purple and yellow blossom, two colors traditionally associated with the Easter season. In earlier times, the herb was used to treat coughs and bronchitis, and was prescribed as a homeopathic remedy for toothache and earache. But since the plant is toxic except in small doses, it's best to enjoy it as an ornamental. Look for 4" pots at your local nursery. Planted now and given a year to develop, the pasqueflower will reward you with a clump of colorful Easter-time flowers.
