That summer-time cottage garden can bloom all winter long-in an easy, long-lasting cottage-garden potpourri. Mix together 12 drops rose oil, 8 drops apple oil, 4 drops musk oil, and 4 drops peach oil with ½ cup orrisroot or oak moss (to fix the scent). Blend with 3 cups dried rosebuds, 1 cup dried lavender, ½ cup dried red-clover blossoms, ½ cup dried globe amaranth flowers, ½ cup rose geranium leaves. Add 2 broken 3-inch cinnamon sticks, 1 teaspoon of crushed cloves, 2 broken star anise, and 6 whole star anise. Seal in a plastic bag for about three weeks to age, then place in a pretty bowl and enjoy.
