Catching Our Breath and Catching You Up

For all of you who haven't heard from us in a while, rest assured that we are still here and going strong. Susan just returned from a whirlwind book tour, promoting China Bayles' latest (17th!) adventure Wormwood, available now in hardback. Visit here for a full list of the China Bayles books. If you'd like to read more about the tour, check out the late March/April Archives at her blog, Lifescapes, where you'll see some of the wonderful places she visited and meet the extraordinary folks who crossed her path. In addition, #16 in the China Bayles series, Nightshade, is available in paperback. Susan is now at home in the Texas Hill Country writing, of course, and taking some time for her gardening.

Let me introduce myself, since I'll be corresponding with you often. I'm Suellen Ideus, the new "coordinator" for the Friends. I live just north of Houston, TX with my husband of 40+ years, and our spoiled sweet Cairn terrier MacDuff. Like all of you, I am an avid fan/reader of Susan's books. You can always reach me with questions or comments via email.

What's Coming Up

We'll be doing a book drawing each month now—for one lucky book club, three signed paperbacks from Susan to use as door prizes for your group. June's winner is the Main Library Staff Book Group of Charleston WV. Congratulations and watch your mail for the books.

We have something really exciting planned for the summer: a Cottage Tales Festival, beginning August 17. We'll send you that link in a future newsletter. There will be 10 posts and several opportunities to win an Advanced Reading Copy of the newest in Susan's series about Beatrix Potter: The Tale of Applebeck Orchard, due out in September. To see a list of all the Cottage Tales books, go to the website. The book drawings are for all of Susan's readers, not exclusive to the Book Club Friends, but I would certainly encourage you to visit and to register for the drawing during the Festival.

We'll continue to let you know about new features on the website. A late-summer mailing of bookmarks and other goodies is in the works, as well.

We're Going High Tech

Early in August, Susan will be releasing a trailer (video, music) for Together, Alone: A Memoir of Marriage and Place, her highly anticipated memoir, to be published in September. The trailer will be available both on Susan's website and on YouTube. Be sure to check the Book Club Friends site for Facebook and Twitter links coming soon.

That's all of our news for now. Please watch your virtual mailboxes for future mailings. (If you'd like to share these eletters with your club, all you have to do is print them and hand them out.) We hope that your reading group has a wonderful summer, filled with all the very best books!
