Happy Summer!

It's been a long hot dry summer in Texas, Book Club Friends. Hopefully, you have all managed to stay cool and enjoy your reading. As fall approaches there is much going on with Susan Wittig Albert, so it's time for an update.

To begin with, we are celebrating the release of the latest Cottage Tales book, The Tale of Applebeck Orchard. We invite you to join us and enjoy the Cottage Tales Festival, which begins as you receive this newsletter, running from August 17-August 28. There will be 10 posts, 20 chances to win a book, and a grand prize. This is open to everyone, not only Book Club Friends, so you'll want to visit the site as soon as possible.

We are most eagerly awaiting the release of Susan's memoir, Together, Alone: A Memoir of Marriage and Place. Trust me when I tell you this is a beautiful and beautifully written book. There is a trailer for the book narrated by Susan here, and in addition, you can preview the first chapter. You'll gain many insights into this talented lady, her marriage and her writing career. Don't miss it!

For China Bayles fans (aren't we all?!), the next book in the series is Holly Blues and is due out in April, 2010. Hopefully, by now, many of you have read and enjoyed Wormwood, which has China visiting a Shaker Village. Like me, you could learn fascinating facts about Shaker history.

Our August winner for the books giveaway is The Rubber City Book Posse in Barberton, OH. Who knows, your club could be next!

Are you ready for new and different? Susan is working on a brand new series called The Darling Dahlias. Set in 1930's Darling, Alabama, the main characters are all garden club members. The first book will be The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree. Watch your newsletters for updates.

If all of this is not news enough, we are getting ready for a mailing of goodies to our Book Club Friends in the U.S. and Canada. This would be an excellent time to send us any updates on your club coordinator and your club's mailing address. We'd certainly appreciate your help on this. Thank you!

Whew! Think I've finally run out of news for this time. Please feel free to copy and distribute this newsletter to your entire club, and to anyone who might be interested in joining. To stay up to date between newsletters, below there is a list of Susan's contact points online. We appreciate each and every one of you and are grateful for all you do to support Susan's books.

Until next time, I wish you a shady spot to enjoy a tall iced tea and a Susan Wittig Albert book.

Warm smiles,
Suellen Ideus
Coordinator, Susan's Book Club Friends
