Autumn, awesome autumn!

It's finally cool here in south Texas—perhaps cooler is a better choice of words, but thankfully we're no longer suffering the 90° plus temps we had the beginning of October. We've also been blessed with abundant rain. If you want to see what a lovely change that's made, visit Susan's blog to see what all is in glorious bloom. Hope the weather where you are is bringing daily delights too!

Susan is busy putting finishing touches on Holly Blues, and has finished writing the first of the Darling Dahlias Garden series. She'll be making some personal appearances in the Austin, TX area this week. When she's home, she doing some reading, a lot of walking, and working in her fall garden.

Bookmarks and Your Clubs
By now, you should have received your packets of bookmarks and recipes. Aren't they wonderful? I love bookmarks, since I always have several books going at one time and I don't like folding page corners down. Do try the recipes—perhaps for refreshments at one of your upcoming book club meetings. What fun it was getting the mailing ready. As I addressed each packet, I tried to imagine you all—where you are in your meetings, discussing books. Some of the clubs have such clever names. They made me smile. Literary Yo-Yos, Bluestockings, The Crazy Ladies, Spicy Delights Book Group, Sisters of the Heart, Ransom Notes, Lavender and Lilacs Book Club, Booked for Murder, Words & Wine, Loosely Bound Book Club—just to name a few.

China's on Facebook!
Several bits of news for you China Bayles fans out there. First, China now has her own page on Facebook! You can find her here. Sign up as a fan. Such a modern lady China is—going techno! The second is a real treat. Susan has posted the first chapter of Holly Blues here, where you can read and just start longing for that April release date. Don't you agree the new story sounds wonderful?

Book Winner
Our October winner of the free books drawing is Crazy Ladies Book Club in Kilgore, TX. Congratulations! We hope you enjoy reading and sharing the books with your members. If this isn't your club, keep the faith—next month it could be!

Cameo Character Raffle
Have you thought, as you read or discussed one of Susan's books, how much fun it would be to be a part of the story? Sleuthing with China and Ruby, strolling the English countryside in the Cottage Tales, or getting to be a new member of the Darling Dahlias? Here's your chance! To support Story Circle Network, an organization founded by Susan Wittig Albert to promote women's writing and telling their lifestories, there's a raffle going on. The cost is $5 per ticket, or 6 for $25; limit 6 tickets per person. The first place winner gets the choice of which of the three series in which to make a cameo appearance. Second place has choice of the remaining two and so on. The winners will actually work with Susan to develop their characters. Go here for details on buying tickets and the rules.

That's all the news for now, but we'll be back soon with updates. In the meantime, enjoy this season of changing colors and changing temperatures as nature prepares the earth for winter slumber. Make your own changes, why don't you? Find a series of Susan's you haven't read, and try it. Invite some new folks to read along with you—share the fun.

Keep up-to-date with Susan, who as always sends her best to each of you. Check out the links at the end of the newsletter.

I look forward to spending some time with you soon. As always, please feel free to make copies of the newsletters to hand out to members and friends. We do appreciate each of you being ambassadors for Susan, for good books, and for reading!

Autumn's best to all,
